Obituary of Lewis N. Kremer

After a long illness, Lewis N. Kremer, 84, of Greenport passed away peacefully on Friday, January 11, 2019 at home. Lewis was born in New York City to the late Dr. Charles H. Kremer, and the late Dr. Malvina Kremer. His step-father was the late Dr. Alfred Rifkin. Lewis received his Master of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania, and he began his career in Philadelphia, most notably as the Head of the Architectural Department of the Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority. He was self-employed as the Principal Architect of Kremer Affiliates since 1974, and he retired in 2016. Lewis was not only a practicing architect, but also held numerous adjunct teaching positions making contributions to the field at Temple University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Columbia Greene Community College. He was president of the Eastern NY chapter of the American Institute of Architects and founder and first president of the Turpin Bannister Chapter of the Society of Architectural Historians. Lewis's many contributions to the field of architecture are too numerous to be mentioned. Lewis is survived by his devoted wife of forty-two years, Dr. Carole McFarland Kremer, and her three daughters, Mrs. Lee Duval, Mrs. Dardi Broderick, and Dr. Mary Gadd and their families. He is also survived by his brother, Dr. Robert Rifkin and his family, and his sister, Dr. Lucille Rifkin Benjamin and her family. A service in celebration of his life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on February 2 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Hudson, NY. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the The Community Hospice Columbia/Greene in Catskill, NY.
